Music scheduling software

Music scheduling software is software which takes the information about your music library (metadata) and information about the order in which you want blocks of time scheduled (clocks), and applies an algorithm to fill in those schedule slots, avoiding such things as back-to-back songs by the same artist, or differing versions of the same song.

Usually, such software is configured with rules to determine what's an acceptable song (cart) to schedule based on the current scheduling category, and other songs scheduled nearby in time.

Music Scheduling Software is in effect a type of expert system. It is a tool used by Program Directors to create the daily playlist, ensuring that fair rotation is given to all pieces in the music library and that station policies are coherently implemented.
